Can you believe we’ve reached the end of another year? Moreover, what actually happened this year? Did 2024 even happen? The answer is yes, although it was so uneventful that it might as well not have.
I’ll get the obvious talking point out of the way first, that being the return of Donald Trump as the American president. Now unlike most people, I’m actually indifferent on this happening as I remember his first run in office which consisted of him being his usual dickish self and little more. Yes, he’s an asshole who says very mean things to people, however in terms of him suppressing people’s rights, that didn’t happen, and I doubt he’s going to let that happen during his second term. The only thing I was impressed with was the failed assassination attempt on him, this alone should prove to people that there’s at least some form of divine intervention out there (don’t worry, I’m by no means religious, just agnostic) as by all accounts he shouldn’t still be with us today. That said, I wouldn’t have minded if Kamala Harris became president as she’s at least a massive improvement over Joe Biden and even Hilary Clinton even if that means she’s on the same level as Trump in terms of competency. Yes, I know her laugh is bizarre as is those multiple accents and I’m genuinely surprised she didn’t usurp Biden earlier as let’s face it, it was inevitable she would do just that the second she became vice president back in 2020. That said, no she isn’t a commie, and she has no interest in turning every kid trans, she was simply proposing a bill that gave equal access to those in disadvantaged communities even if she did a poor job in conveying these policies. The only reason why I wanted Trump to win was to watch the far-left squirm, specifically at the thought of him suppressing his rights even though like I said, that isn’t going to happen. It just goes to show that these breadtubers and cat ladies are their own worst enemies as they come up with these doomsday scenarios and believe them to be inevitable and then wonder why they’re clinically depressed.
That out of the way, let’s get to what this year will be for me looking back on it, that being the return of gamergate. Now I try to remain neutral when it comes to media, however, try as I might, I couldn’t help but side with the likes of Dei detected and grummz for one simple reason. That being that their opponents were some of the most mentally deranged individuals who’ve ever roamed this planet. I’ll admit that getting upset over flat chested women in video games is a bit unhinged in its own right, however the lengths that these Dei companies and terminally online bloggers were forced to call journalists have gone to silence their opponents is frankly disgusting as it all comes down to their inability to accept criticism and that maybe appealing to clinically depressed cat ladies in a medium that these individuals openly mock is perhaps a recipe for disaster. Then there’s the fact that these “inclusive” games all have the same formula, that being a self-insert of a particularly infamous game developer (who shall not be named on this site) going through a character journey where they overcome the hardships they think they have in this world complete with urban Californian dialogue and lgbt representation as envisioned by straight white women from once again urban California. Oh, and microtransactions, tons and tons of microtransactions because how else are these games meant to make a profit when their budgets are usually in the hundreds of millions? Needless to say, these Dei consultants and their “journalist” friends are now on the brink of poverty and are no doubt going to be facing countless lawsuits in the new year for all the money they’ve wasted in the industry on their vanity project as well as the countless layoffs that have occurred to pay for these projects. Admittedly they’re not fully to blame for the failure of these games, unless of course their “consultation” also consisted of dumbing down game play for toddlers, ugly and uninspired art direction, hand holding to the point where it’s possible for the game to play itself and of course, the dreaded live service model which results in mind numbingly repetitive gameplay by its nature.
As for Hollywood, I can sum it up with two words, the acolyte. Sure, there were plenty of terrible films and shows from this year including several which went out if their way to be spiteful and toxic (joker 2 and Velma immediately spring to mind) however this show on Disney+ is the perfect summation of what’s wrong with modern media. It’s not that it’s a hateful show by design because really it isn’t, it’s clearly trying to be an adaptation of knights of the old Republic but with an arbitrary setting that loosely ties to the main Star Wars film series. The issue is that it is without exaggeration, the most incompetent piece of media to ever exist. Anyone who tells you this is a good show is straight up lying to you, every idea it has is in direct conflict with each other, it’s too “woke” for anyone outside the far left to enjoy from its horrendous urban Californian dialogue and insistence of using identity politics, however I can’t imagine the far left enjoying this either as it relies on heavily outdated troupes that makes it come off as racist, sexist and anti lgbt. To give you an example, our “hero” is a personality depraved woman who is raised in a cult of lesbian witches (a homophobic stereotype) gets dragged around by everyone she comes into contact with (misogynist stereotype) ends up becoming evil to get with the bad boy (another misogynist stereotype) all while she’s played by a black woman in the hopes of appealing to the black lives matter crowd (who I’m sure are livid with this portrayal.) Oh, and she doesn’t have a father, because even in a galaxy far far away, black men still abandon their children (a highly offensive racist stereotype.) OK that last point is explained in the show as her and her twin sister being conceived without a father, however it’s still not a good look in progressive circles to portray a black woman in this regard.
Now instead of simply admitting that they made a bad show and that they hired people who had no idea what they were doing, Disney instead decided to use this utterly worthless show as rage bait towards pretty much everyone as they claimed that you were a bigot for not liking a show that need I remind you, is filled with troupes that have been offensive since at least the 70s. This is made worse by the people who made it being utterly contemptible in their own right, I mean hiring the personal assistant to one if the most reprehensible men in Hollywood as the show runner is obviously a recipe for disaster. Going out of your way to hire complete morons to write and star in the show is also a decision that makes no sense, particularly the star who deep down knows she was making garbage and so used it’s backlash to launch her music career with a typical “haters gonna hate” diss track that of course failed as in addition to being garbage in its own right, fell flat because no one had an issue with her prior to capitalising off this train wreck with a music career. The final nail in the coffin was her “apology” video where she was so disinterested in the backlash she got from the show and her terrible song that it’s doubtful well ever hear from her again, not that she has anything to worry about because she was born a multi billionaire and only had a career in showbusiness due to how well connect she is in Hollywood. Hey if I was set for life before I was even born, I wouldn’t care about my actions either.
Well, that’s enough of me attacking the acolyte, like I said, the show isn’t trying to be hateful, rather its simply the latest victim if this ridiculous culture war between over privileged trust fund babies and the idiots from the daily wire. Had the marketing not been so hateful and maybe if they didn’t make it obvious it was the brainchild of the assistant to a serial sex offender, it likely would’ve been nothing more but a misguided adaptation of a great video game with questionable depictions of minorities, certainly not something worth ranting and raging about like I’ve done here. I wish I could say something about the music industry as that’s my area of expertise after all, the thing is there’s nothing to say. Again, considering these people want diversity in everything, they always seem to gravitate towards the same media, in this case Taylor swift and her countless knockoffs. Don’t like that Tay Tay’s gone full indie with her latest snore fest? Fear not because we have the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Chappelle roan, Billie Eilish, Sabrina carpenter and Gracie Abram’s as alternatives. Oh, and you chuds who are fed up with Morgan Wallen and Luke combs? Well, you now have Benson Boone and Tommy rich to break up the monotony. Oh, and we now have a new champion for longest run at number one on billboard with another novelty country song from a musician of colour, 20 non-consecutive weeks at number one and the owner of the song calls himself shaboozey. Again, what do you want me to add? It’s not even that these songs or artists are bad, rather it’s the most sterile, middle of the road nothing burgers that would’ve been lucky to scrape onto the top fifty prior to 2010 that are breaking chart records due to the sheer lack of competition they all have this year.
So yeah, that’s this year in a nutshell, from the boring music to divisive rhetoric in entertainment to one of most bonkers election campaigns in American history. Will we have an interesting year again? Hopefully as if the best a year can do is a dance remix if one of Trumps snarkier comments, then it’s a year that simply has nothing to offer in the history of entertainment. Honestly if it wasn’t for that assassination attempt, you could’ve told me I was in a coma this year and I would’ve believed you. Here’s hoping that things will improve moving forward now that many of these deranged losers responsible for why the world has sucked for so many years at this point are now getting put in their place.
