top 10 overused words on the internet

Daily writing prompt
What is a word you feel that too many people use?

I may or may not take this post down as this is admittedly rather random for this site, however I was amazed by the question and though I’d make a post about it. Here’s what I would consider to be overused words on the internet.

  1. Coloniser: usually said by white people funnily enough, it basically refers to anyone profiting off a trend not spawned by the culture they’re a part of according to these people. Naturally this is far removed from its actual meaning which is simply someone settling down in an environment they weren’t originally part of.
  2. Woke: brought up by those who thinks anyone who isn’t a conservative Christian is pushing an agenda they don’t agree with. While I agree that there are bad faith attempts in “diversifying” pop culture, these attempts are only made by those who see it as a marketing tactic or those looking to get a negative reaction out of people overusing this word (usually idiots from the daily wire.) I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, something is only “woke” if the diversity is shallow and is filled with cringe urban Californian dialogue, not because of the presence of women or non-white people.
  3. Cringe: “this is cringe, that’s cringe” we get it, the person said something stupid, and you felt second hand embarrassment for them, don’t dwell on it by referencing it as cringe. Also, the irony that I referred to “woke” culture as cringe isn’t lost on me, it just proves how ubiquitous these two words have become.
  4. Racist: this is here more for how often it’s used as an insult than anything, ironically enough, the people who overuse this word tend to be racists themselves, so this feels more like projection than anything else.
  5. Conservative/Liberal: because of course everything has to come back to politics, specifically American politics because Americans are the only people on this planet who are allowed to have an opinion according to these idiots. I don’t care who you vote for, it usually has f**k all to do with what you’re talking about.
  6. Fascist: again, said by those who fit the definition to a tee, we’re neither you mirror or therapist, stop projecting your own insecurities onto everybody else.
  7. Capitalism: I get that Capitalism has its issues, however the frequency this word is used (particularly from those living a Capitalist lifestyle funnily enough) has gotten out of hand.
  8. Marxist/Commie: basically, the previous entry but aimed towards the right, hey I’m an equal opportunist when it comes to criticising the political spectrum.
  9. Misogynist/Misandrist: because men are from Mars and women from Venus and that somehow prevents us all from getting along, honestly this never-ending battle of the sexes is why I briefly identified as non-binary in my twenties as I’ve been fed up with this war for most of my life.
  10. Queer: again, said by those looking to thumb screw their way into a community they otherwise have no business being a part of. This also encapsulates those who claim their favourite media is queer because they’re so desperate to be accepted by real LGBT people they’ve made it their entire personality. It’s gotten to the point where I, a real queer person never wants to see the pride flag again as it’s lost its meaning with me.

I could list other examples, but you get the point. I’ve just gotten so fed up with these people politicising everything because that’s what pays the most from AdSense, although hopefully this post also proves that I think both sides of the political spectrum are as insufferable as each other who seriously need to get off social media every once in a while.
