I’m not sure if it’s very professional of me sharing my 2023 Spotify wrapped on this site considering that I’m meant to be as objective as possible, however I can’t deny I was quite excited when I received a bunch of (admittedly generic) thank you messages from some of my favourite artists which compelled me to share it with my readers.
I won’t bore anyone with my Spotify wrapped slideshow, however I’ll leave a bunch of screenshots at the bottom showing what my top artists and songs were for 2023 as well as those showing which artists sent me messages thanking me for being among their top listeners this year. Suffice to say, none of these artists are those who scored any success this year (except maybe Elton John if you consider his duets with Dua Lipa and Britney Spears lingered on the charts this year which side note, made me glad I did a deep dive into his back catalogue to rank his albums and me drawing the conclusion he had no truly terrible music in his catalogue) so don’t think for a moment that I’m shilling for Spotify and their methods of how the website makes music popular from their platform. I’m just a geeky music lover who wanted to share this personal joy of mine with someone with this being the perfect platform for me to do so.

Receiving this makes me glad I did my deep dive into his back catalogue.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been a top listener of queen Kylie since I first got my Spotify app back in 2016.

I’m surprised I’m a top listener of Linkin Park considering I only started really getting into their music less than two years ago.

I think I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve listened to Bananarama’s 80’s material.

Roxette were one of the first bands I ever got into, receiving this from Per brings me so much joy into my life.

Bryan Adams is great, and I apologise for nothing.

I was a bit surprised to receive this from Billy Ocean, however he’s the definitive 80’s crooner of colour so I’ll take it.

Receiving this from Cyndi Lauper brings me a ton of joy, I love her 80’s material and believe she’s a true icon of the decade.

As you can see, I’m also a top listener for Kim Wilde and Pat Benatar, two artists who I’m sure appreciate people like me checking out their music regardless of a lack of thank you message from them.
So yeah, I get excited when my favourite artists somewhat acknowledge that I love their music just like anyone else, I don’t want anyone to think this site is run by someone akin to Watchmojo who doesn’t have any soul which shows in their content.
I hope this post also incentivises people into listening to their favourite artists rather than Spotify’s curated playlists as I only managed to acquire these messages thanks to me listening to all of these artists albums from start to finish rather than simply picking out my favourite songs from their catalogue and relistening to it over and over again. For what it’s worth, I’ve even received emails from some of these artists (again generic) via the fans first feature that Spotify has, meaning that I’ve had access to their exclusive content in addition to an email of them thanking me for listening to their music. It doesn’t matter who your favourite artist is, chances are you’ll receive some sort of gratification from them (or their estate if they’re no longer with us) the more you listen to their music on the site. Of course, the real way to support their music is to buy physical copies of it be it as CD’s or vinyl, this is why the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits or INXS didn’t send me a message despite me liking those three bands way more than anyone on this list (I still love you all if you’re somehow reading this) as naturally I tend to listen to their albums through physical media rather than streaming it on the site.
You can consider this my year end content as there’s no way I’m looking over the big hits of 2023 on this site, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah and a happy new year for 2024. Take care and I’ll see you around.
